CHARMAINE LEE

Charmaine Lee is a sound artist based in New York City. Her music is primarily improvised, with a unique approach to vocal expression that focuses on spontaneity, playfulness and risk-taking. In addition to extensive vocal techniques, she also uses amplification, feedback and microphones to augment and distort her voice. The breadth of her work, sometimes lyrical, sometimes brutal, sometimes funny, reminds us of the evidence that our bodies are literally musical instruments. Charmaine Lee is currently on the editorial board of Sound American magazine.
